Persian(Farsi) is the official language of Iran and Afghanistan. About 35 million people speak Persian worldwide. Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, United Arab Emirates and USA are some of the other countries where Persian speakers live. It is spoken today primarily in Iran (Farsi) and Afghanistan (Dari).

Persian is written in Arabic script. It has no grammatical gender or articles. Words are stressed on the last syllable. Old Persian is attested from the inscriptions left by the Achaemenid dynasty (559 to 331 BC).
